KIRKLAND KIWANIS FOUNDATION ANNOUNCES

SCHOLARSHIP AVAILABILITY FOR 2016 GRADUATING SENIORS

The Kirkland Kiwanis Foundation announced today that it will award up to seven scholarships available to graduating seniors on the Eastside.  The awards range from $1,000.00 to $2,500.00.  Students, or their parents, must live or work within the attendance boundaries of Lake Washington High School or Juanita High School.  This includes Kirkland and parts of Redmond and Woodinville.  Students may attend any public or private high school, so long as they or their parents live or work within the designated area.  Applications for general college scholarships are due Friday, April 15, 2016.

The Kirkland Kiwanis Scholarships honor Kiwanis members who have exemplified the Kiwanis tradition of service to the community.  The scholarships are based on a variety of factors, including academic performance, financial need and community service. “Supporting education for youth in our community is one of the principal purposes of Kiwanis,” said Kat Cannon, President of the service club.  “The Kiwanis Scholarship Program is just one of our programs that assist young people in our community.  From Eastside Baby Corner to high school Key Clubs, Kiwanis is there.”

The Kirkland Kiwanis Foundation also sponsors the Bill Petter Memorial Scholarships ($2,100 awards) for graduating seniors who will pursue Transportation Technology studies at an accredited technical college.  Applications for the Bill Petter Memorial Scholarships are due on April 21, 2016.  “The number ‘21’ always had a special place in Bill Petter’s life,” said Cannon.  The award amount and due date both are set in recognition of that number.

Kirkland Kiwanis and the Kirkland Kiwanis Foundation support many programs in the community including Special Olympics, Eastside Baby Corner, Attain Housing and sponsors Key Club service organizations at Lake Washington High School, Juanita High School, the International Community School and a Builder’s Club at Kirkland Middle School.

For additional information, or to obtain a scholarship application for either program, interested persons should contact John White, the Scholarship Committee Chairman, at white@livengoodlaw.com.  Additional information about the scholarships and Kirkland Kiwanis or the Foundation may also be obtained at www.kirkland.kiwanis.org.
